Skills Audit

Personal Skills Audit                                             Name: Nathan Hunter

Skills acquired
How did these skills contribute to the creation of your product?
How will you develop these skills during the A2 project?
Digital technology
-       What equipment/software packages did you use to produce your production?

Ability to use various camera angles, different video software such as iMovie and Final Cut to edit. Using music software Cubase and Garage Band to create a unique soundtrack and the ability to improvise with ideas to improve them on a deadline.
These skills allowed me to improve and alter my media production according to the design brief and the deadline dates. They also allowed me to use my knowledge of camera angles and media productions in a creative way to help create my media production.
I can use these skills in my A2 work to help create a music video for my chosen band. This will allow me to create something authentic and creative which will appropriately advertise the band. I will also try to experiment with more camera angles and the editing software to create more interesting effects.
Post production
-       What software did you use to create your production?
-       Discuss specific features of the software.

My ability to use the different music software’s to create a unique and original soundtrack. My ability to use the editing software to create the different effects and shots used within my media production.
I was able to use the software’s accordingly to help create different effects for the various different tasks I was assigned. I also could adapt my knowledge of other software’s such as Photoshop to help the others in my group to help create the posters.
I can transfer these skills over to my A2 work as the tasks require a lot of the same things and they also require a lot of the same skills. I can also use these skills to help create realistic media products.
Research and Planning
-       What tasks did you complete when preparing to film your sequence?
-       How did your planning help the smooth progression of your film?

I was able to use my organization skills to keep on top of the tasks given and to also keep a record of what happened within our sessions and what we needed to finish off.
These skills allowed me and my group to keep on top of the work and not to miss deadlines. It also proved that we had enough time to gather enough video footage and also edit it in time to look realistic.
These skills can be used in my A2 work as it can help me plan out and structure what I need to do in order to successfully create the music video and promotional package.
Using conventions of real media texts
-       Which texts did you analyse?
-       Did you take any inspiration from the conventions found from your research?

We analyzed various different media products that related to our media production i.e. Film Noir. We also decided to take inspiration such as dress code and situations to help create our different media productions.
These skills allowed our media production to become realistic and stick to the conventions of our chosen genre. They also allowed us to be able to plan out specifically what we needed to do.
These skills can be transferred over as it will allow me to concisely create different music video’s that relate to my chosen genre and it will eventually help me to create a realistic and authentic music video and promo pack.
Creativity
- were our ideas for your portfolio imaginative and unique or did you adhere to conventions?

The ideas we came up with in our group were original but had clear inspiration from existing media products so we had to help create our own elements and add them to the ideas to make them seem original.
These allowed our group to use some existing ideas and take inspiration from them to create something new and original.
This will help me as I can study some existing music video’s to help me to create something new but within the conventions of successful music video’s already created.
