Evaluation

If the link does not work then here are the elements that appear on the wix website:

Question 1 "In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?"

Question 2 "How effective is the combination of your main products and ancillary texts?"

Question 3 "What have you learned from your audience feedback?"

Question 4 "How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?"

Panasonic HC-V100:
These Panasonic HC-V100 video cameras were used due to their superior quality in being able to shoot in High Definition film and also to be able to change the ratio of the image aspect to suit different purposes. We decided to use this because we were able to shoot in very good quality to achieve a professional looking video with the convenience of using a hand-held camera. This was used for our draft footage and as a result of this, our final production film. We used this in conjunction with a tripod for ease of use and also to gain some steady camera shots, again to achieve a more professional look to make our music promo package more believable and genuine. By using the camera we managed to use as many features of it as possible in order to become more familiar with, and to be a little experimental with our footage to see what effects we could achieve. These features are as follows: Zoom, Ratio Aspect, HD Video, Contrast and Brightness settings and also the focus settings.

Nikon D-90:
This camera was used to create the images for our digipak and advert promotional material. This is a studio-quality camera often found in the photography industry. This has allowed us to be able to create realistic images and also to try out certain effects with lighting and exposure to decrease the amount of editing needed to the image so that the work could be completed on time and also so that the images stay as original as possible so as to stick with our theme and genre of our music video.

These were used primarily in the research tasks and within the different areas of our audience feedback, which did allow us to gather information about what we needed to place within our music video to gain a good response from current and possible future fans of our genre. It also has allowed us to gain tutorials, hints and tips on how to maximize the use of our other software’s, which then helped us improve our final media product’s quality. We used the different softwares for different reasons however:

Internet Browser and Other Programmes:
Google Chrome: We decided to use this browser as it was easy to use and the most convenient for or needs. This helped us search for different companies that the record was owned by originally and we also used it to get our research tasks done to enable us to gather more of an understanding of music video's for our genre. We have also used Google Chrom as it links in with our e-mail browser "Gmail" and in turn allowed us to access "Blogger" "SlideShare" and "Prezi" all of which are listed below.

Gmail: This was the email browser we used to get the rights to use the song for our video and also to use to allow ourselves to gather information from home and then e-mail it to our college. It was used as it is widely known for its reliability and it was easy for us to use due to us already having e-mil accounts with Google.

Blogger: This was the website that we had used to collect and present all of our evidence and tasks in order to complete our project successfully. It was helpful and easy for us to use as we were familiar with it from using it last year within our projects to create the opening sequence of a film. Thus enabling us to use it in a more creative way as we already understood the basics of it.

SlideShare: This was used to collect the data of our storyboard ideas and also to ensure that we had a backup of all the files in case something went wrong or we lost the files ourselves.

Prezi: This was used for us to gather and present our ideas and information easily without using the standard programe "Microsoft PowerPoint". It was also a chance for us to creatively and easily show our work on our blogs.

Adobe Photoshop CS5:
Within our own skills on photoshop we did experiment and receive advice from tutorials on the internet, these tutorials allowed us to create different effects and consider what we could and couldn't use within the making of our promo package. The tutorials helped us but mainly were focused around text font and how to create different and interesting effects with the many different tools available on the internet and Photoshop. this particular part of photoshop was easy to use as all the tools were placed neatly on the left hand side of the screen and also were easy to navigate through. we used this to our advantage and used many layers and tools to reate the required 'dusty' effect we needed for our digipak. Though we couldn't really download many other aspects for photoshop we managed to download one font that we had used within the Digipak and also the advert to ensure consistency. Then we applied some filters in order to create the effect that suited our genre more.

This was used in the creation of our Digipak and Advert and also our company Logo. We had used many features of this including masking, overlapping, filters, colors and the various tools available to us. Some of this came from tutorials that we learned from the Internet and gave us ideas that we could use within our media product. It also gave us the chance to improve and adjust the quality of our images which we could use within the planning stages i.e. storyboarding as it gave us a digital display of our shots allowing us to visualize it clearly. It was also used to give our products more of a professional finish to make our products more believable and more popular with an immediate audience.

Final Cut Express HD:
This was used to edit and draft ideas for our final music video. We had decided to use and experiment with features of the video such as cropping, dropping and adding frames, enhancing frames, creating the split screen effect in the opening scene and also trying to ensure that the mouth movements were synced with the pronunciation and expression of the lyrics in the track itself. We used this software because it is the most advanced and professional available to us at this current time and also because we were familiar with the use of it from our media products last year giving us the advantage of being able to experiment with other and more technical ideas and features of this program such as the split screen effect and adjusting the ratio of the camera i.e. 16:9 to ensure that all of the shots were viewed in the same form as all of the other frames.
The reason we chose Final Cut over any other video editing software such as Sony Vegas, was because of the superior quality to understand and manipulate HD video footage without damaging quality. It also has an easy to use interface and also was good because you could add a variety of effects and transitions to make it look proffessional and more believable to a mass audience to which our music promo package is aimed at.
We used final cut to ensure that the video itself was of good quality yet we had used it with tutorials on the internet which showed us how to start using the split screen effect shown in the beginning of the video. This was helpful yet we added our own spin on things and also decided to use the different effects such as greyscale and edited the brightness and contrast to create a more interesting effect within the beginning of the video to grab people’s attention thus developing the conventions of the video genre itself. We also used final cut to lengthen tracks with the select tools and this helped us to gather an estimate of how many clips we would need and how many we could use for different parts of the video.

The main element of our video was trying to gather roughly the same amount of performance material as narrative to ensure that the video was balanced out evenly in the way that our genre and audience required to make a successful video. This included us messing around with and experimenting with the different layers and how to successfully add clips in even for a small element. We went through each individual clip and cut it down to exactly what we needed. Sometimes we had filmed parts that lasted around 20 seconds and they appear for only 3 seconds in the final production. We also used the clips to our advantage as we were able to cut them up and place them before and after certain clips to give the illusion that they were happening over the course of the video instead of happening immediately. This was a great advantage for us and easy to use within the program.

Below are two videos showing how we created a still frame (used in conjunction with our split screen effect in the opening scene) and how we adjusted the brightness of a film clip to ensure the footage was consistent throughout:
